Yesterday, as you know, my stop-loss in IG Group was hit, taking me out of the stock at 1295p.

Today, its Q3 trading update has not gone very well. The share price is currently off 22 per cent at 1000p.

The full announcement is below.

My conclusion: Phew, although maybe the share price was telling us something in the run-up to the Q3 update. It looks like setting my stop loss at 1295p, just below the recent lows, was a good level. Perhaps a lesson for other stocks. When a stock starts breaking down, get out. You can always reevaluate and get back in later.

As for IG Group now. The market will be uncertain for some time. It still needs convincing on the Underdog acquisition, and it will want to see improved trading in Q4. So for now, it's on the watch list, but I’m not in a hurry to get back in.
